Mond thought the he had to teach Bernard a lesson after reading his letter. John refuses to have sex with Lenina and locks himself in his room. Then he starts reading Shakespeare and Lenina goes off to get high on soma. John was at the hospital seeing visiting his mother. He sits next to her in tears and tries to remember all the good times they've had together.
Bernard and Lenina fly to a reservation in his helicopter. Bernard refuses to take soma at first, then takes it and figures out that he had sex with Lenina. He remembers that he left something on at his apartment and calls Helmholtz to fix it. Then he figures out that the Director was not joking about him being exiled to Iceland. His disbelief and feeling of rebellion soon turns into fear. Lenina and Bernard meet John only to find out that his father was Thomas, the Director. John surprises them by speaking perfect English. John was not actually from the reservation. It was his mom, Linda, that gave birth to him while being in the res. John's temptations urge him to touch Lenina when she was passed out. He quotes something from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. All to meet the coincidence of Bernard's helicopter landing, which tempts him to hide. The Director tells Bernard that he is going to be sent to Iceland. He counteracts by imtroducing Linda and John, which soon leads to the Director resigning because he had a child, John. John meets Helmholtz and reads a couple novels of Shapespeare to him. Once John got to telling him about Romeo and Juliet, Helmholtz basically burst out into laughter, simply because marriage and having parents. John locks himself in his room again embarrassed about what happen between him and Helmholtz. |
